Next up was Squid:

Squid can be both bought from most tackle shops, the Squid will usually come in either a 1lb box or a 5lb box, Using a chopping board take a Squid push the knife gently just above the head and pull the body most of the guts should come away intact).
Cut the body from top to bottom and lay dark side down clean off all the internal parts and the bone then turn over run the knife over the dark membrane and it will slide off discard this overboard. What is left is the white flesh you will be using as bait.

From the shore or boat the bait can be used in thin strips or used as a tipping bait.

Squid

Whole Squid can be used they can either be cleaned or not. Squid when used whole should be threaded on to the hook from the top and stitched through so the hook ends up through the head. The top should then be secured with bait elastic to make it look as natural as possible.

We set sail for the day at 6.30am and sailed across the bay and out to around a mile and a half were we set anchor.
With the rods set-up and the hooks baited and the lines cast out, the wait was on, it wasn't long before I was into my first Dogfish which was of a good size, about 8lb.
